Who We Are. Free State Aeromodelers is an association of avid radio controlled model aircraft enthusiasts. Our members come from all walks of life, but we all share the love of building and flying model airplanes, gliders, and helicopters.

Our club was chartered by the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA), charter number 232 in 1980. We welcome all types of airplanes, helicopters, and gliders. We offer training to those members who wish to learn to fly on Tuesday evenings from April to October.

Our current flying field, Konterra Model Air Park, opened in the spring of 2000. Guests are welcome anytime the gates are open. Konterra Model Air Park is not a state or regional park, it is private property; we ask that you please abide by the posted rules.

Directions From Washington

•From I-495, the Washington Beltway, take I-95 North toward Baltimore.
•Exit at Route 198 to the west (Burtonsville exit).
•Turn left at the first light onto Sweitzer Lane, you’ll see an Exxon at the corner.
•Stay on Sweitzer Lane until it
intersects with Van Dusen Road.
•Turn right onto Van Dusen Road.
•Konterra Model Air Park is located 2 tenths of a mile on the right.

Directions From Rockville

•Take E. Randolph Road to Route 29.
•Turn north on Route 29 towards Columbia.
•Turn right onto Route 198.
•Drive approximately 1.4 miles on Route 198 and turn right again onto Old Gun Powder Road.
•Continue on Old Gun Powder Road for 1.7 miles and turn left onto Van Dusen Road.
•Drive 8 tenths mile to the Konterra Model Air Park located on the left.

Directions From Baltimore

1. •From I-695, the Baltimore Beltway, take I-95 South toward Washington.
•Exit at Route 198 to the west (Burtonsville exit).
•Turn left at the first light onto Sweitzer Lane, you’ll see an Exxon at the corner.
•Stay on Sweitzer Lane until it intersects with Van Dusen Road.
•Turn right onto Van Dusen Road.
